Parker Mesa Overlook Trail

pacific ocean. santa monica pier (in the distance)

red vs. white. white would win this part of the race.

from sea to shining sea.

the southland.

civilization.

a grueling run. we're at the top.
army intel willis made it first. again, maybe
it was that time in iraq that gave him the
edge.

the same night, had asthma attack while
trying to sleep. probably pushed myself
too hard.

notice m. bell wearing long pants.
rattle snakes live in california brushes.

baby rattlesnake (?). it's head doesn't
look like a king snake or garter snake. it's got that triangular shape: a marker of poisonous fangs.

if it weren't for a couple on the trail checking it out, i wouldn't have noticed it.

malibu: 8.5 percent asian american.

92 percent euro american. a community in the hills.

downtown l.a.

the santa monica merry-go-round is a
registered national landmark.

marilyn monroe used to spend mornings there. one day
she was offered a job by one of the hands; she took
off her sunglasses and that was the end of the conversation.

pacific ocean. a five hour flight from
honolulu: the only major city in the
united states with a majority asian-american population
(63 percent).

santa monica: 7.25 percent yellow.

a redtail (?) hawk.

Griffith Park: Old L.A. Zoo

merry-go-round park. lots of foilage.

From 1912 to 1965, bears and lions and
monkeys were at griffith park.

i found out about the old zoo grounds
from a magazine.

a wooded area.

rock steps.

monkey cages (?)

maybe the lion's den.

some moron was exploring the place.
imagine if the lions were still there -
he'd be gook meat.

the view of a caged animal.

dungeon stairs.

planet of the apes might've been
filmed here.

grass and a mountain in background

more cages. maybe for owls.

water stream.

pretty quiet day at griffith.

man-made river, maybe.

took a detour and got a closer
shot of mountain.

glendale. once home to gabriella indians,
now the headquarters of armenians.

glendale: largest population of armenians
in U.S

golf course. ace in the hole.

hollywood. then, koreatown.

more l.a.

downtown.

it took about 25 min. to get to the
top. this is the view. i jogged most of
it.

L.A. did not make list of most polluted
cities. china, india, peru, and
 zimbabwe
made the cut.

the trail going down.

glendale galleria: july 3, 1991,
terminator 2 was released to much
fanfare. part of the film took place
at the galleria.

the movie lived up to the hype.

running up the trail. this particular
part was pretty grueling, as it was a
steep slope.

Trevor Ariza Spotted in Venice Beach, California

pro-level players at this court.

Black dominated.

Half-court game.

eighty degree day in march.

push-up bars.

you can thank the fab five in influencing
me to buy those shorts. recently, espn
released a documentary about the culture-

changing team.

the man taking this picture told
me: this is the money shot.

sand pit: a place for beachgoers to
try different exercises.

this man insisted i let people know he's
fifty-nine years old; he was ripped.
i asked permission before snapping this photo.

trevor ariza regrets signing away from
l.a. he visited the venice beach courts.
maybe he was plotting a return to lotusland.

handball players.

the pier. a good number of people showed
up despite it being a thursday.

as of today,
california unemployment is 12.3 percent.

chicanos throwing a football.

white man (on right) working on tan.
surfers were out riding waves.

muscle man with afro.

dips. develops triceps-deltoids-and-chest.
makes for a more proportioned, fit body.

jogger running along shore. this shot
was taken last summer ('10).
